#HalloweenEdit – Pretty Spooky

Deciding on what you’re going to dress up as for Halloween is one of the hardest tasks of the year! We get you’re suppose to look scary but we always want to add a girly twist to our costumes…and we’ve got the perfect guide to Halloween make-up this year!

Pretty Spooky

As we searched through our favourite magazines at jones+jones HQ we stumbled across the this frightfully beautiful edit..

The Black VeilThe Black Veil 1

Black gets interesting with snippets of lace beneath your eyes. It’s really easy to do but looks impressively complicated and creative so it’s impact-guranteed. Paint black cream eyeshadow all over your lids and up over your brow bones, then layer a powder eyeshadow over the top to intensify the black. Go heavy with a black kohl in your top and bottom waterlines and instead of applying mascara to your lashes, sweep a little through the inner corners of your eyebrows. Now for the craft bit: cut little pieces of black lace into random shapes and glue them below your lash line with eyelash glue, leaving the ends unstuck so they flutter fetchingly around your cheek bones.

The Corpse BrideThe Corpse Bride 1

Why do we ever bother with bronzer when pale looks this interesting? And who knew that those sludgy greys we’ve gotten used to wearing on our nails would look pretty incredible on our lips too? To create the look, use a foundation shade a shade or two lighter than your natural skin tone, and liberally dust a white setting powder on top to create a slightly chalky finish. Use a taupe or nude shadow as a base on your eyelids, and then sweep grey powder through the socket to create a disconnected line with a theatrical, winged-out shape. To finish the eyes, trace a thick line of black liquid eye liner along your top lash line then add plenty of mascara to your top and bottom lashes. For the lips, we used a blue grey to make them look a bit corpse-like – if you struggle to find the right shade, custom-mix one by blending a pale pink or lilac lipstick with grey cream eyeshadow. Finally, use a matte taupe powder to contour just below your cheekbones and give your cheeks a hollowed, haunted look.

The Lovely BonesThe Lovely Bones 1

Half a skeleton somehow seems twice as creepy as a full face, so if you want to go all out with your Halloween look but don’t want to lose your pretty side (literally!), here’s how. Paint half your face with white face paint using a foundation brush to get a clean line down the centre of your face. Put black cream eyeshadow or lipstick around one eye and up to your eyebrow, then paint a triangle shape onto one half of your nose. With a black eye pencil, draw a slit for the jaw from the edge of your mouth to your earlobe. Draw on the outline of the teeth, making some jagged and pointy. Go over the outlines with black liquid eyeliner, let it dr, and then use a small brush to fill in the teeth with white. Draw a few cracks with black eye pencil between your top lip and nose, smudge with a clean brush to soften.

The WitchingThe Witching 1

Blackened plum eyes and lips look suitably fiendish for Halloween, but they’re also right on trend this season. Make sure you put a bit of effort into the application so the colour on your eyes is nicely blended – that’s what makes this look beautiful and bewitching. Apply a dark purple cream eyeshadow, as a base all over your lids and around your lower lash line (at a push, you can use a dark lipstick if you don’t want to buy another product but it will crease more). Blend a dark purple powder eyeshadow over the top waterline to thicken your lashes and then apply flesh-coloured liner along your water line. To make the look more haunted, sweep concealer and loose powder through your eyebrows to bleach them out. For the lips, we mixed black and purple to create a dark blackberry shade – blend the colours on the back of your hand to choose how vampy you want to go. For a perfect shape, fill in your lips with a dark lip pencil first so you can create a nice sharp silhouette.

#DailyEdit – Nude Lips

Nude Lips are the perfect way to make a bold statement in a subtle way. Nude lips have a classy, sexy look that goes great with dark eyes, sophisticated hairstyles or whatever you feel like stylin’ that day. You can pull off nude lips with practically any look as long as you do it the right way! To get the perfect nude colour check out our guide below..

That’s why we’re writing this article-to give you 7 tips for perfect nude lips! Keep on reading if you want to be a pro at making up the perfect nude and neutral lips for yourself AND your friends!

1. Exfoliate

You don’t want a flaky surface to start out on. Guys want soft, kissable lips! Besides, nude lips show flakes and dry skin even more so than colored lips. Use a wet washcloth, an old toothbrush or a lip scrub to gently exfoliate all those dead skin cells off your lips!

2. Apply lip balm

Your next step to achieving the perfect nude, subtle lips after exfoliation is to apply a clear lip balm. This will help lock in moisture and give your lipstick something to cling to. You don’t want anything really oily or glossy, go for a waxy, smooth balm that’s not too sticky for the perfect base!

3. Choose your shade

When choosing a shade of color for nude lips, it’s important to keep skin tone in mind. You don’t want to appear sick or dead! Here is a pretty basic guideline to follow: if you have a fair skin, you can try a peachy, pink, or even a totally nude shade! Your pale skin will nicely enhance any of these shades. If you have a medium/dark skin, you can go for a peachy beige, or something warmer in color. Definitely stay away from truly pale beiges, creams or white tones or you’ll look like a ghost!

4. Use Concealer

Many girls tend to forget or leave this step out when it comes to creating the perfect pair of neutral lips, but don’t make this mistake! Conceal your lips first, and blend the concealer out around your mouth. Use a shade that is your exact skin tone, and blend, blend, blend! Doing this keeps the gloss from seeping into the fine lines around your mouth, and it also neutralizes the natural pink of your lips for a more believable nude lip!

5. Line First

Don’t forget to line your lips before you apply your color! With a nude lip, it’s easy to “lose” your lip-line against your skin, so be sure to define it. Use a liner that’s one shade darker than your skin tone, but still in the “nude” family. Then, go ahead and fill your whole lip in with the same creamy liner as a base for your lip color to cling to.

6. Lipstick Power

Now you’re ready to apply that lipstick! For a believable pair of nude, subtle lips, choose a moisturizing formula of lipstick. A matte nude lipstick is just a recipe for death warmed over! Save the matte nude colors for Halloween, and go with a supple, moist lipstick for your perfect nude mouth!

7. Apply Gloss

Your final step to perfect nude lips is to finish with a gloss! You can go with a clear one or a slightly tinted nude or pink gloss, whichever you prefer! Just avoid anything with sparkles since a sparkly nude mouth is a bit strange!

Nude lips are not as difficult to achieve as you might have thought! Nude lips are back in a huge way for any affair you may have to attend this summer, so read these tips and tuck them away for future reference!
