  • 1 cup + 2 Tbsp all-purpose flour
  • 2 Tbsp cornstarch
  • 1 1/4 tsp baking powder
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs, at room temperature*
  • 1 1/4 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/4 cup butter, melted and cooled slightly
  • 1/4 cup vegetable oil
  • 1/2 cup whole milk, at room temperature*
  • 1 recipe Strawberry Buttercream Frosting
  • 12 small fresh strawberries or strawberry slices, for decoration

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees. In a mixing bowl, whisk together flour, cornstarch, baking powder and salt for 30 seconds, set aside. In a separate large mixing bowl, using an electric hand mixer set on medium-high speed, whip together eggs, sugar and vanilla until mixture is very pale, fluffy and thickened slightly, about 3 minutes. Mix in melted butter and vegetable oil. Working in three separate batches, beginning and ending with flour, add 1/3 of the flour mixture followed by 1/2 of the milk, blending until well combined after each addition. Pour batter into 12 paper lined muffin cups, filling each cup 2/3 full. Bake in preheated oven 19 – 22 minutes, until toothpick inserted into center of cupcake comes out clean. Cool completely on a wire rack, then frost with Strawberry Buttercream Frosting and top with a small whole fresh strawberry or fresh strawberry slices.
  • *To bring the eggs to room temp quickly, simply submerge in a bowl of warm water for 5 – 10 minutes. To bring milk to room temperature quickly, simply heat in microwave on high powder in a microwave safe dish for 15 – 20 seconds until no longer cold.

This is a great way to wrap cupcakes for gifts. You’ll need the shorter/wider clear plastic cups, cellophane bags and ribbon. Also, I wouldn’t recommend this if your cupcakes are wide enough they fall over the side of the cupcake liner or if you’ve frosted around the edges (simply because they may not fit or they’ll frosting will smudge along the cup). Just carefully drop the cupcake in and wrap.

Perfect Valentines Hair – Hollywood Curls

Every girl should be armed with the knowledge of how to do a quick vintage inspired Veronica Lake-esque wave in under 30 minutes. It’s one of the best ways to up the fancy factor on clean dry hair before heading out for a big night. The whole point of this tutorial is to do the exact same wave, one right next to the other and develop a pattern. So read the instructions, but more importantly follow the photos. Here we go!

  1. Find a good deep side part. This wave is not quite as powerful when done with a middle part. Once you find your side part, clip the top half of the heavier side up as seen in photo #1.
  2. Start with curling the section right above your ear. With this hair style, it’s important to let the hair get as hot as you can without burning it. You be the judge, as everyone’s hair is different. Tip: sometimes instead of leaving it on longer, I unravel it and do it again– “twice baked”!
  3. For steps 3, 4 and 5, you want to do the EXACT same thing right one right next to the other. Wrap curl the hair forward toward your face. You want to make sure you’re seeing a perfect curl pattern. If not, curl that piece again!
  4. Do the next piece.
  5. And the next one just the same.
  6. Now switch sides and repeat. Do one curl after the other in the exact same pattern. You’ll start to notice a sort of Shirley Temple curl happening. That’s good. Your hair should look like noodles and this is the ONLY time I will say that’s okay.
  7. Once the curls are in place, spray with a firm holding hairspray. I like to spray after so the hairspray sits on top of the hair instead of cooking it into the hair which can make it heavier.  Allow that to set for 5 minutes in a cool, dry room.
  8. After everything cools, take the fine side of your comb and start combing through the curls. As you comb around the entire head, the curl pattern will start to join together.
  9. Keep combing and combing and combing. (Apply a little more hairspray or re-curl a curl if/when necessary.)
  10. If you’ve curled all your sections the exact same way right next to each other, you’ll start to see a perfect pattern form as you’re combing.
  11. Take your barrel curling iron (not a wand) and curl any straight stray ends under.
  12. Give it one last veil of hairspray and you’re set!

Perfect Valentine’s Hair – Heart Braid

We’ve found the perfect cutesy hair for a day time Valentine’s Date!! It’s relatively easy to do and doesn’t take much time at all!!

Check out us doing it in the office!

Step 1: On dry hair, pulse refinish dry shampoo into shape to add gritty texture that will help the braid grip.

Step 2: Create a perfect center-part using comb.

Step 3: From crown use comb to create a curved hair line that goes to the top of the ear. Clip out of the way.

Step 4: Start french braiding at the crown (as seen above) and curve the braid to the ear. Only use hair from outside the heart shape, not hair that’s in the clip.

Step 5: Once you get to the back of the ear, release clip and start to weave that hair into the entwine. Braid all this hair to the nape and clip away.

Step 6: On the opposite side, do exactly the same as above.

Step 7: Once you get to the nape, unclip the first side and braid the two sides together.

Step 8: Tie off with clear elastic.

Step 9: Pulse refinish dry shampoo into finished look and arbitrarily yet artfully pull at a few braided pieces to loosen them, adding some undone disheveled tousle to the finish.
