A glimpse into the glamorous world of our amazing make-up artist, Katy Nixon!

You may have seen her name mentioned on our blog before but if not, we’d like to introduce you to our amazing make-up artist Katy Nixon! She helps to add those finishing touches that transform our location shots from very pretty to absolutely stunning! We’ve asked her to tell us abit more about herself and we’re very honoured to have the opportunity to share with you a little insight into her glamorous world…

 

 

I have been a make-up artist since 2003, but have been around fashion from an early age, as it is in my family so I was lucky enough to do work experience on editorial photo shoots and help backstage at Fashion Week. It was after assisting at that early age that I knew I wanted to be a fashion make-up artist and finally found an outlet to combine my two biggest passions art and fashion. I would always look through the glossy fashion magazines and see all the big campaigns. I would really want to be a part of them and  just knew there was nothing else I wanted to do.

 

My favourite thing about being a make-up artist is making people feel good and confident about themselves and knowing that I have made them look their best is very rewarding. But of course the travel is great and seeing lots of amazing locations.  Also doing something different all the time is great, as sometimes when you’re a creative you can get bored easily and I enjoy not falling into a routine all the time.

My most glamorous client (apart from jones + jones, of course!) is Louis Vuitton. Working amongst such amazing expensive couture garments is a major perk and gets me really excited. Although most people would expect my celebrity work to be more glamourous, I always prefer the buzz at Fashion Week and the satisfaction a great shot at an editorial can bring.  However being flown to L.A for the Oscars with one of my celebrity clients was also pretty glamourous!

 

 

My top make-up tip for S/S 2012 is keep it really light and fresh, change your smoky eye to something more nude and opt for a brighter colour on the lip for a younger more girly look.

 

Highlighters are great at this time of year and give the skin that gorgeous dewy glow that we always see on the red carpet.

My favourite jones + jones dress is the Florence Dress because it is super feminine but edgy at the same time and I love the peach and coral colours…

 

 

If I had to choose just one beauty product to pair with such a gorgeous outfit, it would be a good bronzer nothing looks better with coral than sun-kissed skin.

My one piece of advice for any aspiring make-up artists is to never say no to anything, you never know who you are going to meet along the way!

jones + jones 4th Birthday Party!

Happy birthday to us! We have been creating gorgeous dresses, skirts and outerwear for four years now and we thought it was about time we had a party to celebrate so last Thursday we flung open the doors to our head offices in Mayfair and invited our friends for an afternoon of cupcakes, canapés and of course champagne!…

Party guests had makeovers from the talented girls at Bobbi Brown, including our amazing hair and make-up stylist Katy Nixon, a chance to view and try on our new collection as well as get photographed in it…

…and of course a lovely little goody bag full of gorgeous treats from Bourjois, Bobbi Brown, Kaé, Happy Kitchen and us, amongst others!…

Music played from Darren Dynamikz, cupcakes from Crumbs and Doilies and macaroons from PAUL delighted our taste buds and sweet aromas from the Jane Packer flowers filled the air… 

 

 

…we even had the honour of celebrity guests attending, not only did the team from The London School Of Modelling share in the fun but girl group From Above popped by to wish us a Happy Birthday too (while wearing jones + jones of course!)…

The making of our Parisian fashion shoot…oh là là!

Take four gorgeous models, add in a lashings of mascara and glam make-up, stunning dresses from our new A/W 2011 collection, lots of twirling and swirling and dancing, a fun dose of playful banter, sequins, sparkles and the romance and magic only a Parisian back drop could offer and you can start to imagine what making our A/W 2011 fashion shoot in Paris was like!

We were so excited to see the images from the Paris photoshoot for the new A/W 2011 collection and absolutely loved what we saw! We always want to give credit where credit is due and Katy Nixon deserves all the praise we can give her! Katy was the make-up artist for the shoot and managed to capture exactly the looks we wanted creating and added those finishing touches that transform a look from pretty to stunning…
